Abstract Background: The use of commercial mix and tank mix with two or more herbicides is a widespread practice. However, despite its several possible benefits, little is known about its effect on the behavior of the molecules in the soil, which can increase or reduce the leaching potential of these molecules. Objective: This study evaluated the leaching potential of the herbicides diuron and sulfentrazone applied, using commercial mix and tank mix, in soils with different textures. Methods: The herbicides diuron (1,750 g ha-1) and sulfentrazone (875 g ha-1) were applied in three soils with different textures (clayey, medium, and sandy), using a commercial mix (Stone®) and a tank mix (Herburon 500 BR + Boral®). Subsequently, the treated soils were...

Albrecht,A.J.P.; Albrecht,L.P.; Krenchinski,F.H.; Placido,H.F.; Lorenzetti,J.B.; Victoria Filho,R.; Barroso,A.A.M..
Recent studies indicate that glyphosate applied in post-emergence in RR soybean can eventually cause phytotoxic effects. However, there are many questions that need to be clarified in the scientific and technical contexts, involving the issue of RR soybeans regarding the use of glyphosate. This study has assessed the impact of the application of different doses and formulations of glyphosate in the reproductive period of RR soybean (R1 stage). For that purpose, an experiment in the field was conducted in two harvests (2011/12 and 2012/13), in which a 2 x 5 factorial design was used (formulations versus doses) totaling 10 treatments. In these two experiments the variables related to agronomic performance were: phytotoxicity (7, 14, 21 and 28 days after...

Alsaadawi,I.S; Khaliq,A; Al-Temimi,A.A; Matloob,A.
Field trial was conducted with the aim of utilizing allelopathic crop residues to reduce the use of synthetic herbicides in broad bean (Vicia faba) fields. Sunflower residue at 600 and 1,400 g m-2 and Treflan (trifluralin) at 50, 75 and 100% of recommended dose were incorporated into the soil alone or in combination with each other. Untreated plots were maintained as a control. Herbicide application in plots amended with sunflower residue had the least total weed count and biomass, which was even better than herbicide used alone. Integration of recommended dose of Treflan with sunflower residue at 1,400 g m-² produced maximum (987.5 g m-2) aboveground biomass of broad bean, which was 74 and 36% higher than control and recommended herbicide dose applied...

Atrazine in a corn cultivated area and its relation with the landscape position Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Aquino,Regimeire Freitas; Lima,José Maria de; Magalhães,Ciro Augusto de Souza; Silva,Bruno Montoani; Carvalho,Renato Fráguas de; Guilherme,Luiz Roberto Guimarães.
Atrazine is still being used in no-till corn production in Brazil. This herbicide can be moved by overland flow and leached in the soil profile. In both ways, it can pollute water, either by reaching the groundwater or lakes and streams close to the crop field. This study evaluated the presence of atrazine in a dystrophic Yellow-Red Argisol and a dystrophic Melanic Gleisol in a corn field, where atrazine has been applied for 11 years. Overland flow was the main process of atrazine transport on hillslope and leaching was the most important process in the floodplain. Frequency and location of atrazine application in the landscape define this herbicide contamination process.

DIFFERENTIAL TOLERANCE OF SUGARCANE CULTIVARS TO CLOMAZONE Planta Daninha
BARCELLOS JÚNIOR,L.H.; PEREIRA,G.A.M.; GONÇALVES,V.A.; MATOS,C.C.; SILVA,A.A..
ABSTRACT Weed control is one of the most relevant costs of sugarcane production. If weeds are not controlled at the right time, the productivity and longevity of sugarcane plantations are reduced. In this crop, chemical control is the most used method, since it is efficient and it has a lower cost. Differentiated tolerance of sugarcane cultivars to the herbicide clomazone has been observed in the fields. However, there is no scientific evidence of this effect on the productivity of crops. This study evaluated the effects of clomazone on three sugarcane cultivars (RB966928, RB93579 and RB867515). Herbicide application was performed 40 days after the emergence of sugarcane plants and 7, 14, 21 and 28 days after the application, the toxicity caused by the...

Barranger, Audrey.
The aims of this PhD were to determine (1) the effects of the herbicide diuron on the genome of the oyster, Crassostrea gigas, (2) the possible transmission to the offspring of damaged DNA and (3) its consequences on oyster physiology. The genotoxicity of diuron and the vertical transmission of DNA damage were highlighted after parental exposure to environmental concentrations of diuron during the gametogenesis. Primary DNA lesions were detected in both somatic cells and germ cells of exposed genitors. Detection of the oxidized base 8-oxodGuo in gonads shows that exposure to diuron led to an oxidative stress which likely explains the observed DNA strand breaks in spermatozoa. The transmission of these DNA damage was confirmed by fluorescent in situ...

Study of genetic damage in the japanese oyster induced by an environmentally-relevant exposure to diuron: evidence of vertical transmission of dna damage ArchiMer
Barranger, Audrey; Akcha, Farida; Rouxel, Julien; Brizard, Raphael; Maurouard, Elise; Pallud, Marie; Menard, Dominique; Tapie, N.; Budzinski, Helene; Burgeot, Thierry; Benabdelmouna, Abdellah.
Pesticides represent a major proportion of the chemical pollutants detected in French coastal waters and hence a significant environmental risk with regards to marine organisms. Commercially-raised bivalves are particularly exposed to pollutants, among them pesticides, as shellfish farming zones are subject to considerable pressure from agricultural activities on the mainland. The aims of this study were to determine (1) the genotoxic effects of diuron exposure on oyster genitors and (2) the possible transmission of damaged DNA to offspring and its repercussions on oyster fitness. To investigate these points, oysters were exposed to concentrations of diuron close to those detected in the Marennes-Oleron Basin (two 7-day exposure pulses at 0.4 and 0.6 μg...

Comparative embryotoxicity and genotoxicity of the herbicide diuron and its metabolites in early life stages of Crassostrea gigas: implication of reactive oxygen species production ArchiMer
Behrens, Daphne; Rouxel, Julien; Burgeot, Thierry; Akcha, Farida.
Herbicides are one of the major classes of pollutants contaminating coastal waters over the world. Among them, diuron (3-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)-1,1-dimethylurea) is a phenylurea herbicide frequently detected in oyster-producing area, known to be toxic for this important exploited non-target species. With the aim to investigate the mechanisms by which diuron displays its toxicity in oyster, the implication of both biotransformation and oxygen reactive species (ROS) production was studied considering embryotoxicity and genotoxicity as endpoints. Comparative embryotoxicity and genotoxicity of diuron and its main metabolites (DCPMU, DCPU and 3,4-DCA) were thus studied on oyster larvae by the embryo-larval bioassay on D larvae and the comet assay on trochophore...
